Cofradía Anaka, Cultural and Gastronomic Guild is composed of an spirited group of people with a commitment to make known the history, culture, traditions, places, customs and cuisine of Irun and the District of Anaka in particular; to highlight its peculiarities and distinctive characters.
Among its objectives are the organization of activities to promote and to improve the neighbourhood and its surroundings. The Brotherhood can also carry out many initiatives to develop cultural, social and gastronomic values of Irun.
The Guild is open to invite people from all walks of life.
The Brotherhood’s logo includes five perfectly distinct elements: the main facade of the Palace of Urdanibia, as a principal exponent of Anaka’s history. A book that represents the cultural aspect of the Brotherhood , a treble clef in reference to the traditional music band integrated in the Brotherhood, a spoon referring to the gastronomic character and a “laia” that represents teamwork.
“Laia” is a primitive agricultural Basque implement, no longer in use, to till the land.
On the logo can be read the inscription, in Spanish and Basque "Brotherhood - Anaka - Kofradia - Irun".
The above items are included in an oval coat of arms with a leather trimmed edge, identical to that found on the facade of the Palace of Urdanibia with the inscription: "Sebastian de Urdanibia rebuilt this house in the year 1612" . Logo Design and layout by Marina Narzábal Gabilondo.
Gastronomy. The Gastronomic section of our Brotherhood does not promote any particular Basque dish, but the set of preparations offered by individuals, gastronomic societies and catering establishments in Irun.
Music. The Brotherhood has a small traditional music band to liven up their acts and provide performances wherever required.
